Louisiana Garden Apartments -- aka, "The Pruitt House"
Built at the turn of the century (circa 1895) as a single family residence, it was converted to a triplex rental apartment suite sometime during the 1980's. With two 2bd/1ba apartments, and one 1bd/1ba unit, the structure has one shared water meter and 3 separate independent electric meters.
The recent history of the property involved a purchase by fortunity from two community friends who relocated to CO in 2007. Garden projects were initiated in early '08, but never quite materialized back then. Much landscape prep was done (primarily the removal of 44 white pine trees bordering the property's south & west exposures) to decrease the risk of storm damage which had become more of a problem and increase the sunlight exposure for growing and future potential structures for expanded housing on the rear-western portion of the lot.
Current plans include a serious revival of the garden project and sustainable uses of the land, as well as total renovation and remodeling of one of the 2 bdrm units turning it into 3 bedrooms with shared kitchen and bath. This will move the property more towards worker-member residents rather than private non-member tenants in the months to come.
